Costuming isn't just a hobby for me. Yes, I love to make costumes and pretend I'm way more of a badass than I really am (becuase come on, I am in no way Power Girl) but it's more than that for me. It's a cause. How is it you ask? Well, I'm hoping to use my costumes to help women feel sexy and awsome with out dressing like a slut and letting them know that not only super skinny super models are beautiful.
Now, yes, I am what you would call a skinny bitch. I've been blessed with genetics that give me a super fast metabolism. However, I do not appreciate going to a costume store and having to see nothing but skanky slutty costumes for my size. Nor do I like how curvier women get a crappy looking picture and even crappier costume selection just because they aren't super skinny. What.The.Hell? So that is where I haope to help.
I want every lady to know no matter what their size, they'll be able to get the exact same products from me at all times. Ofcourse, I don't cater just to women. This goes for men too. I'm just using women as I am one and am sick and tired of this "be super model sized or go home" mentaility everyone has.
Now with that said it comes to where I say there are certain cosplays I will not do. Biggest being any version of Starfire from DC comics. I do not like this char or how she is portrayed. She's supposed to be some super perfect woman and she's the biggest slut imagineable. She's also pretty brainless from what I've seen of her lately. Don't get me wrong, I loved the girl in Teen Titans and all, but when I found out how she is in the comics, I put up the red flag. I don't want to support something where the women are awsome because they are stupid, scantily clad (we're talking two straps, come on) and the biggest slut ever. Now, if you like Starfire that is cool, but don't ask me to make her outfits for you. It's totally against my code and well, yeah, won't do it.
With that comes that if you want something not in the store and it's a skantily clad woman who is not as bad a s dear Starfire in portyral, I'll do it, but it will have to be revamped so not so much booty is shown. I mean, Power Girl barely made it on my OK to do list and I adore her, but she barely made it. Now, Steampunk Power Girl easily makes it because that's being covered and awsome at the same time. Heck, I'll steampunk just about anything. Well, minus my big no no mentioned above. If you have questions of if something is ok, just ask and we can figure something out.

The Geek and her machine are back after a festive snowy holiday! Sadly, during said holiday festivities I got a whole lot of nothing done. However, I did visit my dear friend Miss Wilde of steamysewing.blogspot.com and now have the Imperial Officer uniform. It does not have a hat or rank badge but that means I'mma make it! Also, I have to amazing jackets and a lovely skirt from her. Oh, and check her blog to lok at her pretty hat and skirts!
Sewing completed list for Ohayocon:
Codex
Bustle skirt for Madame Fox
Duffle bag A
Sewing to do list for Ohayocon:
Fox corset
Link cosplay
Duffle bag B
Yes, I know, I really shouldn't have a to do list since the con is so close but hey, my machine gets lonely without a sewing project. Ofcourse, I'm trying to get as many costumes as I can done by the end of January as I will be opening an online cosplay shop. Everything I sell will be hand made and none of that chintsy crap costume shops try to sell you for halloween. I hope to have this list done and then have an Assasian's Creed and maybe a Jedi done so I can have them up in the shop as well. Anything you guys think I should try, if only to see a massive rant on how silly it's turning out? Let me know so I can start compounding a list and doing the research!

Weekly blog update! Okay, so, for those of you who wait for this to upload, sorry I didn't update last week. Decided spending time AFK and sewing would be better and let me catch up on con sewing. It totally worked! Everything Codex is done (pics will be taken later today when I am at the game) and one of my luggage bags is done and the bustle skirt is about 75 percent done as well. Corset is still just cut out but that can wait as I have christmas sewing to do. Also added Tallis from Dragon Age Redemption to my list, but that is more for origins this year. Yes, I'm going to cosplay at a gaming con and be like the only non booth babe doing it. It's how I roll, get over it. Well, like that and with a giant D20 for GMing. Also, found out Pathfinder has comics. Go read them, they're amusing. Also, another thing of note, Cello Wars by the Piano Guys. It may have been the best thing I saw this week. Vader plays an accordian. Go watch it. Now.

Fangirl rabid mode go! I'm super excited at the moment as I found out something for me that is awsome: Barnes and Noble sells The Guild DVDs! Yes, I bought seasons one and two with the gift card I recieved recently when I saw them online. So now I can watch Feilica Day whenever I want without having to wander over to my computer and wait for youtube to load. I'm a huge fan of Feilica (I'm so spelling her name wrong I know it...) and I almost got to meet her at Origins last year but my party plotted against me, bleh. Also, if you have not, read the graphic novel for The Guild so you get the backstory as to how they all met.
Okay, frothing fangirl moment over, as I will now go on to sewing news. Codex sewing done: Check
Bustle pillow done: Check
Bustle skirt: pinned and to be cut out
Corset: pinned and to be cut out
Jacket: still deciding if i want to make one as i got an epic vintage fur (real fur too!) at an antique shop right next to where i work. It's not victorian but super cute and warm
Okay, I gotta go sew now, lol!

After the holiday and super savings weekend from hell, Geek and the Machine is back! Sorry for the huge gap of random posting, but I, like a lot of you, was enjoying Thanksgiving turkey with my family and busting a move as I put fabric away at work on Black Friday and Saturday. I did, however, finish Codex's dress. So now only the shoe straps and necklace to go before it's staff time! I am now working on the bustle skirt for Madam Foxx, my steampunk persona.
Now today's post is something I randomly do, discuss why a movie rules or fails, aka, movie reviews. That's right, I decided to make a life choice and watched SyFy original movies. Two of which I really want that time of my life back and one that was good enough that I'd maybe consider watching this channel again if there are more dungeon crawlers like this.
First up is Dungeons and Dragons: The book of vile darkness. Now, for those of you who played 3.5 and used TBVD you're probably getting as excited as I did when I saw it was a movie about this evil book. Don't. I made that mistake and I am still regretting it. This movie was awful. The plot was subpar like any DnD prewritten adventure to where it was "gotta save my dad who's been captured and stop this book from being repaired" Well, Gaston, you almost failed at both. The movie followed what may be the worst Paladin of all time as he raged at his god and father, and helped the villians so he could save Daddy. Now, I know he had little to no other option but....was Pelor asleep? Because if he wasn't, Gaston should have fallen from grace. The timing in the movie was awful, rushing through everything until the very end. Yeah. No. Acting? So very bad. Special effects? The only good thing about this movie. I mean, the witch used Wail of The Banshee like she was Fos Ro Dahing. That made me giggle. And the little undead girl creeped me out. And then there was the head bad guy. A zipper mouth? Yeah, not so good. All in all, I never want to watch this movie or read the book it was based off of.
Second up is Dungeons and Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God. I watched all of ten minutes of this one and gave up. It was the same formula as Number One on the list and the acting was worse. So, I really shouldn't have this on here, but I felt the need to warn you. So SyFy, please, if you want a DnD movie, spend time on it rather than tossing it at us like a poorly written sandbox adventure.
Third, and final on the list is In the name of the King, a Dungeon Seige tale. Now, I know nothing about Dungeon Seige. However, that did not stop me from enjoying this movie. The timing was amazing to where I forgot when i started watching it, and the characters were all interesting. The plot for this movie was the king's douchey nephew (who was also a drunkard) wanted the throne so he got the even more of a toolface Magus to help him by controlling these orc things called either Crog or Grog, I couldn't tell due to everyone trying to have an acient when they said it. Said beasites invade a town where a man only known as Farmer lives with his family. Farmer, being the farming badass that he is, takes on said invaders with nothing but a machete. A rusty janky kind of machete and tights. Yeah, pretty epic. After his son and parents in law are killed and his wife goes missing, Farmer decides to tell the king to fuck off and does his own thing to go get said love of his life back. His brother in law and the old guy named Norrik go with him. Oh and there are plot twists galore in this thing. I'm not giving them to you here, so you'll have to just go watch the movie. While this one isn't Oscar level, it's still worth the two or so hours, even if the end does leave a lot of "what happened to everyone" waaaay open. Sequeal perhaps? Let's hope so and let's hope it's just as epic.

Hello once again my dear readers. I'm not exactly sure what to talk about today, other than Codex's dress is a hem away from being done and the bracers and headband are complete and I have one of the inventory bags done as well. The bag is darling, I'm telling you what! Also, my hands are going to be littered with scars due to pins. Those things hurt when you get them embedded in your flesh like some crazy metal splinter of pointy death. To be honest I think Codex looks a little shotty, but really I'm like that with everything I do. Gonna take it and ask my gaming group what they think tonight. Oh, and Thorne became a baroness. Yay!
Yeah.....not really a whole bunch to say today as nothing has really crossed my radar as to anything nerdy.....Unless anyone has anything they want my opinion on. Also, my bro finally discovered Skyrim. Hmm....maybe I should put together some skyrim inspired costume....but that's just really rengear and a lot of fur so I might pass...dunno, depends on if someone is interested in it I suppose.

My dress form is my hero....er heroine i guess as it is shaped like a woman. I got the fabric i needed to finish the dress for Codex and thanks to my dress form, i can easily pin it all together and get it sewn. So here soon pics will be up and I'll start modding the shoes I got for it and then staff here I come!

Somewhere in a galaxy far far away there were....Space Janitors! That's right, Geek and Sundry's newest series hit the web today in a short but humorous first episode in which the Janitors ponder their lives aboard an evil space station and ask "Why don't those darn rebels ever shoot at us?" you can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxuT_r9rCeA
Now as stated in an earlier post, I adore Star Wars. That means I also love spoofs, and this one I am really looking forward to.

Nerdy newsflash for those who look forward to the Hobbit movie that is coming out: Empire has the entire soundtrack on there website for you to listen to it here: http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=35757
This is just a way for you to listen to it, it's not a download and you can't skip tracks, but seriously, who cares? Just like the LOTR soundtrack, this one is amazing. Seriously, i cried as I thought of Bilbo and the dwarves when the shire music kicked in. Song called Old Friends. Yup, I can't even listen to the LOTR soundtracks when that music comes on. Howard Shore did an amazing job with this music as it made me imagine things in my head and not often does that happen. So yeah, go listen to it. Like, right now. Drop what you're doing and listen...

Okay, first off, thanks to those of you who are reading this. I'm super happy to know that someone is even a little interested in this blog and am very much thankful for my readership. Secondly, Storm Troppers. Blog feels so much better now that I figured out how to put something geeky and not pre-made for the general public as the background pic. And that brings me to today's big topic: Star Wars.
Yes, I know, Disney bought Star Wars. I was at my job at Jo Ann fabrics when my manager came in and gave me the news. Honestly, I didn't know how to react, and well, I still don't. Star Wars was a big part of my childhood, even if I did run out of my bedroom crying to my mother (who's birthday it is today and guess who's baking her a cake, that's right, this girl!) that Vader was gonna poke Lea with the scary needle. Now, I understand that everyone is worried about Disney ruining SW. I mean, these past few years every sequeal they have touched has royaly sucked with a magical glittery tiara on it's head. However, that being sad, it doesn't mean that they're going to ruin our second home in a galaxy far far away.
What we have to remember guys, is that Lucas himself wants this. He has complete faith in Disney, and while I'm not sure myself what to think of DIsnwy OWNING it, I do think we have to have faith in what Lucas wants. Why am i going on about this weeks after you ask? Because people on Facebook are still bitching about it and I need to vent. I mean, who all has read and seen the videos of the signing and stuff? Lucas said he wanted Disney to have it as he wants it to go on long after he passes on.
We all love SW, but the one who loves it most is Lucas. I'm a creator myself, so I know how a project can become a child to you and you just want the best for it. Yes, I just admited I see a lot of my comic projects as children, as the only living child I have is my big russian grey/siamese cat Hime. So what I'm saying I guess is that those of you still bent out of shape over it, just let go and trust in Disney, and by doing that you'll respect Lucas. Also, I just hope there's more Troopers of some kind in the new movies as they are my fave. Like seriously guys, I go to cons and stalk the Troopers of the 501st through the con as I love them so much! So that's my piece before I go totally insane with wordage here, and off I go to bake a cake and then play Skyrim or Twilight princess for the hundreth time.

Today I've been really lazy. I am sad to say that all I have gotten done besides normal people chores is painting my nails and making Codex's head band. Ofcourse, today being Monday, I didn't have all day to sew away as today is when I am a half-elven bard named Thorne. Unlike me, Thorne can pittle the days away adventuring in just a few hours. That being said, her outfit is going to be a biatch to sew. Medieval steampunk hippie bard anyone? Well, maybe not so much hippie as hipster. Ofcourse when you have a charisma of almost twenty, you can do what you want. Literally, seeing as I keep getting nat 20's on diplomacy and charm person!
Now, that doesn't mean T is a bitch. She's actually really sweet. I mean, she helped a clan of kobolds out when she could have just let her bros totally distroy them while she inspired them via rave music. Yes, T raves as she has a summonable masterwork keyboard enchanted with ghost sounds and can cast dancing lights all she wants. Oh, and there was an epic catfight between her and a npc. And there was the combat where she rode around on her little show horse. eah, she's ridiculous.
So that brings me to the topic of wanting to do a webseries or something with her. Well, that and my ADD&D idea, which is a bunch of videos where your's truly goes on about DnD and Pathfinder in a spastic sort of way. Oh, and tips on how not to be a total douchebag like several of the people we have all probably encountered in these games. Seriously, if you're the GM, you don't make it a sport to have all your players gang up on one and then tell them it's their fault when they try to talk to you about it. Not cool, not cool at all.
I don't know why I started this kind of random rant but yeah, I'm an rper. Like, hardcore. I mean I have a Sister of Battle char that I rp like crazy when I can and all the people who know about her look at me funny as I'm actually rping her and not just running down heretiks with her heavy flamer. Which is fun too by the way. But I'll stop my ranting here as really, who wants to read this? Long story short, I love tabletop rps and dice, so happy Monday guys!

Okay, confession, I was bad this weekend. I didn't work on codex.(insert tense music here). However! Nerdy sewing was done as I took a tinsy break to make some rocking Darth Vader Pajamas. Also, I will be recieving the Imperial Officer uniform I purchased from my dear friend Miss Wilde of steamysewing.blogspot.com and am super excited for it as I adore her work.
Now, on to non-sewing related things. As an artist (kinda sad at myself for neglecting this part of myself on here) I invite you to poke around my gallery at grim-reaper-kumquat.deviantart.com and please forgive the randomness that is my gallery as a lot of it is old. I'm currently working on a Warhammer 40K fancomic about my SIster of Battle OC O'reed, you're no so typical and butchy SoB. Which reminds me of another sewing project as I want to do an O'reed cosplay X-X Omg the power armor....
Another thing I need to get done other than this kinda hideous Doctor Who scarf is dice jewelry. Cuz who doesn't want to be blinged out as they roll the die and try to not get fried by a dragon? Though in my bard Thorne's case it's roll a nat 20 to make the dragon her friend....

So.....I need to add some gussets to the dress for Codex as my skinny ass can't fit into a petite....However, with that said, the bracers and corset just need eyelets and then they will be done. I'm also making little bags to go with the outfit, as nothing to hold your con-bling is a sad state to be in. So, they'll be my inventory slots~ I'm thoroughly enjoying this project as I work on it and then take breaks every tuesday to wathc the new Guild season. Poor Vork got permabanned...oh well, the guild will figure it out!
Also, sewing buddies are awsome, especially if they are a big grey cat named Hime. She likes to help me sew so I'll have to post some pics of her later when I can.
Oh, and a fun project for an afternoon is making those hats with the long mitten parts. I'm currently working on Adventure Time ones to sell and Fin's hat once cut out takes not even an hour to do on the machine!

Okay, sewing update! Codex's corset is almost done. I didn't do it completely correctly, but I'm fine with it as it's for look and not function. The one Feilica wears in the show isn't a real working one but looks gorgeous and so far mine doesn't look half bad. Also, this is the corset that i figured out how the pieces fit together correctly from this pattern! I just need to get some more gems to glue on it and some eyelets and she's good as done and then today I'm working on the dress some more, which has been a pain in itself. Sheesh!

Name dropping time for all you steampunkers! For anyone wanting of delightful steamy sewing got to my dear Miss Wilde's page at www.steamysewing.blogspot.com to go see what she is up to and follow her like a shadow like I tend to do.
Hi there everyone and welcome to my geeky little corner of the interwebs. Here I will keep logs of all my nerdy little crafts and sewing projects in hopes to get some of you interested as well.
Cara's sewing projects:
1) In honor of the new season of The Guild, I am working on Codex's priest outfit from The Game. I have everything but the bracers cut out And pinned together. I'm working on the skirt as we speak, with the lining being evil. Bring it on skirt! To be debuted at Ohayocon this year.
2) Thorne, my bard character, a costume I have been planning for years now, next after codex
3) Madam Fix, my steampunk persona, which really is just a bunch of steampunk outfits needing to be made
Cara's Crafts:
1) Codex's staff, needing to buy everything and put it together. I'm using the tutorial you can find for it on youtube.
2) Doctor Who knitted scarves
3) Orogan Trail crossstitch
There's more here but I don't have the time to type so it'll be updated later.
